Village stores

The village shop situated in the Market Square sells everything from apples to zinfandel. If you can’t find it here, you probably don’t need it!

Owned and run by Richard and Joan O’Sullivan, the shop is open from 7 am to 6.30 pm, Monday to Saturday, and 8am to 12 midday Sundays and bank holidays.  (Only closed Christmas day).

Fresh bread, fruit and vegetables and milk are delivered daily, as well as newspapers and magazines.

They also bake rolls, croissants and pastries every morning creating an aroma that tempts even the most virtuous.

Being a Londis shop, there is always a range of promotions which compete head-on with the big supermarkets.

Future Post Office Services in Bildeston

We are pleased to announce that our application to provide Post Office
services from Bank House Stores has been formally approved.
The alterations necessary to meet Post office requirements are in place and the
planned opening is 9th May, although we still await approval of the necessary
signage from Babergh. The cost of these works has been substantial and we are
grateful to the County Council for a grant towards these costs.
More details of services available will be posted in the shop as they become
known, but they are likely to cover everything that was previously available
with the exception of car tax, some types of business banking and large
parcels.
As previously stated, the main feature of this new service is the availability
during all opening hours. Withdrawals can be made at any time, so there is
no need to queue up at 9 o’clock on a Monday morning. It is important that
customers do not all arrive at once, as there will not be a separate Post Office

in at least a month without any Post Office services in Bildeston.

We have spent the last 6 weeks trying to resolve this problem without success, so it is important that everyone

is made aware and makes suitable arrangements. Those who have money paid into a bank or building society

account can withdraw cash at the shop using a debit card.

If you do not currently have this facility, you should enquire at the Post Office if this can be arranged at

short notice. Unfortunately, we have not been given any information about how things will work, let alone how

everyone is meant to cope during the interim closure, so we really can’t answer any detailed questions ourselves.

You may wish to contact your County or District Councillor to find out what they can do to help.
