IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PATIENTS AT BILDESTON HEALTH CENTRE
With effect from 1 June 2011 the doctors at Bildeston Health Centre will
no longer provide out of hours cover for their patients.
During the last few years under the present system it has become
increasingly difficult to ensure that the quality of care given to you out
of surgery hours has been in line with the ever increasing regulations
and restraints implemented by the Government.
Most of you will be aware that there are further more radical changes
to the NHS taking place in the coming months and years. One of the
changes being proposed by the Government is the abolition of practice
boundaries, this is due to come into force in April 2012 and will mean
that patients can register with the practice of their choice regardless of
where it is or where they live. Obviously when this happens we will not
be in a position to provide out of hours care to a greater area than the
one we cover at present as we can only have one doctor on call at a time.
Also, with the proposed changes to the NHS more and more
responsibility will be given to family doctors, adding to an already heavy
workload. This extra responsibility combined with providing an out of
hours service could have a serious impact on the quality of care you
would receive from us.
We have had to take all these factors into account when making our decision.
At present we have no plans to change the service we provide during
surgery hours unless the Government tells us to. You will still be
able to see the doctor of your choice on weekday mornings during
open appointment surgery between 8.30 am and 10.30 am with
booked appointments in the afternoons Monday to Friday. We hope to
continue to provide a number of pre-booked appointments and open appointments on Saturday mornings
