Bildeston is a thriving village of a thousand or so which sits in the heart of south Suffolk’s lovely countryside. It is within easy reach of Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Hadleigh and Sudbury. We enjoy unspoilt rural surroundings combined with a remarkably high level of services for a village of this size. Why don’t you explore our web site and find out exactly what we have to offer.
Bildeston Parish Council has raised objections with Babergh over proposed development of 48 new homes near Rotheram road and Atriss close.
Bildeston Parish Council do not consider that this is the right development for the village. Fundamentally, the planning application fails to justify the need for this scale of development in the village at this time. In addition, we have identified various material planning considerations that the planning application fails to overcome. Therefore, in summary, we wish to register our formal objection to the planning application on behalf of the local community and request that outline planning permission is refused
Suffolk County Council has been implementing 'part-night' lighting and streetlight dimming across the whole of Suffolk, with the objective of reducing energy consumption, saving both money and reducing CO2 emissions. The County Council estimates that introducing the system will save at least £550,000 per year in energy costs and has the potential to deliver a significant reduction in carbon dioxide.
Therefore, for some time now street lights have been switched off in Bildeston between midnight and 5.30am every night. Following discussions between the County Council and the Parish Council this arrangement will now also be applied in Bildeston to street lights owned by the Parish Council. This aligns us with other communities across Suffolk whilst creating some savings for the Parish Council.
The new arrangements are due to come into effect from 1st February, 2015.

Bildeston Parish Council wants your views on how Bildeston should develop. There are currently 470 houses in Bildeston – a number that has grown by about 30 in the last ten years. It is likely that Bildeston will have more new houses in the years to come; certainly Babergh District Council has identified a need for more than 1,000 new houses spread across its rural villages by 2031. So, if Bildeston is to have more houses, the question is: how many, of what size and type, and where? Each answer throws up more questions about what each of us value about living in Bildeston.
Bildeston Parish Council wants the people of Bildeston to be able to influence the big decisions that will affect the future of the village. A questionnaire designed to discover the view of villagers on the most important issues will be dsitributed. Copies are available for every adult in the village to have their say. Everybody's opinion matters – which is why we urge you to help decide the future of Bildeston.
